Oberkobold Template

Oberkobold is a template that can be added to any koboldthinking human called Gordon.

Oberkobolds are monstroues humanoids which gain strength in form of strange supernatural abilities. Different from most species these neat little monsters loose ability points as they age. Thus a newborn Oberkobold is in terms of abilities strongest, but his growing might compensates for that. Evil as they are, Oberkobolds specialize in tyranny and torture to press lesser monsters and unsuspecting fools into their service. Another speciality of Oberkobolds is the use of mystic mediums such as the IRC which are his basic tools to control his underlings.

The Oberkobold gains several special abilities but also a few major drawbacks. He later looses some of the special abilities, when he gets older but these are replaced with new ones, which often are even more powerful. Each decade of his life the Oberkobold looses 2 ability points per ability. Sadly, he looses even more of his keen intellect when he reaches 30 years of age and suffers an additional 2 point loss to INT and CHA.

The following table shows the general development of any Oberkobold. Some of the denoted abilities fade away after a certain age, read the individual descriptions. It is arbitrary in which order an Oberkobold develops these powers within an age category, but Cry like hell and Terror are natural powers which simply fade away at a certain age.

Cry like hell:
Only young Oberkobolds posses this strange power which is able to bewitch other people to do his bidding. Whenever he is displeased with the situation the young Oberkobold may start to cry, this is in itself no use of the Cry like hell ability. Once any person recognizes his suffering, the young Oberkobold may choose to extend its power to the mind of the unsuspecting fool. Only a Will save (DC 30) will prevent the target from becoming a thrall for up to 30 minutes. After the expiration of this time another Will save (DC 15) could break the enchantment.
(Only from 1 to 3 years of age)

Terror:
Starting at young age, the Oberkobold gains the extraordinary ability to terrorize people (especially his parents). As an infant he terrorizes them by crying and shrieking at the least possible moments e.g. in the middle of the night. When he grows older he starts asking very stupid questions, never satisfied with the answers.
People subject to this ability must immediately succeed a Will Save (DC 25) or temporarily loose 4 Points of INT and become fatigued. The penalties of this ability loss stack, so it is possible that people become insane.
(Only from 1 to 12 years of age)

Baleful Polymorph:
The ancient Oberkobold has the mystic power to polymorph innocent young humanoids into evil little kobolds who the must do nasty little work for him. There is no Saving Throw against this power.

Create Plane:
An Oberkobold has the ability to create a place, where he can shepherd his Kobolds. He is able to change appearance of this Plane which is sometimes referred as “Website” or “Forum” at will.

Discipline:
In times of war or personal absence the Oberkobold can summon 1d2 Sarges and 1d10 Kobold privates, to execute his orders. Commanding them counts as a free action. This number may rise, if the Oberkobold becomes more powerful at later levels.

Fatal obsession of the Oberkobold:
The Oberkobold is so obsessed with collecting items, no matter if of ancient source or just useless crap, that, should he become exposed to these very items, he suffers a -6 penalty on his saving throws to resist collecting. The presence of other kobolds increases this penalty by 2 for each kobold within 30ft of the Oberkobold.
Only the presence of the Oberkobold's girl friend completely negates this penalty, including the additional penalty caused by other kobolds. While within 60ft. of his girlfriend the Oberkobold instead gains a +10 holy bonus on his saving throw to resist his fatal obsession.

However, the Oberkobold's obsession is so strong, that the penalty on his saving throws is doubled, should he ever be prevented from collecting his favored stuff for more than two weeks. After this time he becomes fatigued until he again is able to follow his obsession.

Fright less presence:
Using the mystic medium known as IRC, the Oberkobold is able to force his underlings to follow his commands by using his special attacks “Slap the Slave” and “Kick the Slave”. Should any one kobold ever meet the Oberkobold in person, he instantly becomes immune to all special attacks except "hug the slave". Once he has met the Oberkobold, a kobold receives a +4 enhancement bonus against all special attacks used by the Oberkobold via the mystic medium IRC.

Plüschork:
An Oberkobold gets the ability to wildshape into a fierce Plüschork. He radiates a powerful fear aura with a radius of 50 ft. (Will negates; DC 30). He also gets the ability to smite criminals like a Paladin. As a neat side effect of his Plüschork form young girls love to hug him all day long.

Slap the Slave:

An Oberkobold is in direct contact to his underlings at any time using the mystic medium IRC. Such he can control individual progress of any Kobold and apply "friendly" force as needed. Slap the slave is an especially intriguing method to get the work done. While slacking off any kobold can be slapped by means of the IRC medium and thus forced to work. After a kobold has been slapped, he needs to write a least one Rezi in the next few weeks. If the subject is not willing the Oberkobold uses the force of Kick the Slave which intimidates the unwilling slave (ask Speren!) immediately. However this method carries one major drawback:
After several uses the targeted kobold becomes somewhat immune. Further use will only anger the target.

Kick the Slave:
Similar to Slap the Slave an Oberkobold can punish his underlings per IRC. Instead of simply slapping them around, he kicks them out the medium IRC which causes the lesser kobolds to panic and hurry back. Each kobold becomes addicted to the IRC after only a short time; otherwise this method wouldn't do anything.

Hug the slave:
If the Oberkobold manages to grapple any kobold (which isn’t really difficult because of his several frightening abilities), this kobold behaves as if affected by Charm Monster. There is no saving throw against this ability.

Summon Rezi:
The ancient Oberkobold can summon a lesser kobold at any time and force this poor individual to write a review, ignoring any penalties for bad books. If the summoned Kobold is unwilling to do the tedious work, Oberkobolds at first use their Slap the Slave ability to "motivate" the young ones. If this doesn’t work the Oberkobold threatens to use his “Weapon of Choice” which always forces the slaves to do his will. However, no summoned kobold can be force to review a book faster than in two weeks.

The Lair of the Oberkobold:
The Lair of the Oberkobold is stuffed with ancient tomes and keen Swords. Two Dire Cats guard this lair at every time and he somehow persuaded a beautiful young and innocent maiden to be his girl-friend.
People resting there gain a temporarily bonus to Constitution of +2 due to the fine meals they can enjoy. But beware the “CHILLI OF DOOM” !

Weapon of Choice:
When the Oberkobold becomes older he joins a mystic order called “Police” (common people refer to this order by other names but fear to speak them out loudly). By joining this order the Oberkobold automatically becomes proficient with the Order’s Weapon of choice, an European version of the “Tonfa”, called “Schlagstock” (or: “Prügel”, “Knüppel”, “Birnenklopfer”). When using this weapon the Oberkobold gains the following feats: Power Attack, Weapon Focus (Schlagstock), Weapon Specialization (Schlagstock) and Cleave. After some time and several uses the weapon gets the "I-know-where-it-hurts"-Enchantment which deals an extra 4d6 damage to everyone.

Wrath of the Oberkobold:
Age means power, this is especially true in case of Oberkobolds, but his final supernatural ability is surely way beyond anything imaginable. As he crosses the final line to become an ancient Oberkobold – lesser kobolds even fear to speak about these beings – all restrictions of the past become void. His physical appearance is signed with the mark of death, but inside he cumulates great power of anger. If anybody should be foolish enough to resist any orders of his Oberkobold he surely will be torn apart.
